America’s law enforcement should be respected. Instead they’re in danger all of the time.
Now ICE agents got surrounded in a scary scene caught on camera.
ICE Agents Face Hostile Crowd During Minneapolis Enforcement Operation
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents conducting targeted arrests in south Minneapolis on Monday encountered a large group of protesters who surrounded federal vehicles, escalating tensions in an area with a significant Somali community, local media footage showed.
The operation is part of a broader ICE surge aimed at apprehending illegal Somali immigrants amid an ongoing Treasury Department probe into an alleged $1 billion welfare fraud scheme, with investigators examining whether diverted funds supported the terrorist group Al-Shabaab.
WCCO reporter Jonah Kaplan shared videos on X documenting the standoff.
“Dozens swarm @ICEgov agents operating in South Minneapolis,” Kaplan posted. “Officers now ordering people off the streets in an increasingly volatile situation.”
A follow-up video captured agents deploying non-lethal paintball markers to disperse the crowd before Hennepin County sheriff’s deputies arrived to assist.
Local Leadership and Policy Context
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) stated on Dec. 7 that city police would not assist federal immigration efforts tied to the fraud investigation. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) acknowledged on NBC’s Meet the Press Nov. 30 that the state “attracts criminals” but urged against stigmatizing Somali residents.
President Donald Trump has pledged to terminate Temporary Protected Status for certain Somalis in response to the scandal, asserting that unchecked refugee inflows have harmed the nation.
Recent local incidents underscore rising crime concerns: Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara apologized Nov. 20 for earlier remarks about “groups of East African kids” involved in criminal activity. City Councilman Jamal Osman (D), who campaigned on restorative justice, was carjacked Nov. 10 shortly after reelection.
Nationwide Challenges for ICE Operations
The Minneapolis confrontation aligns with a pattern of intensified resistance to ICE enforcement during President Trump’s second term.
ICE facilities in Chicago and Portland, Oregon, have faced repeated riots. In Chicago, assailants rammed agency vehicles during one operation. The Department of Homeland Security reported Sept. 26 multiple violent attacks on its Broadview, Illinois, facility. In Portland, protesters have targeted conservative journalists and threatened to use lasers against federal aircraft.
Violent incidents against ICE personnel include a Sept. 24 shooting at a Dallas office that left two dead before the gunman took his own life; July shootings at facilities in Texas, resulting in 10 attempted m*rder charges in Alvarado; and agents fired upon during operations in Illinois and California.
The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to inquiries from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
These events highlight the risks faced by ICE agents as they carry out lawful immigration enforcement and protect national security interests.
