The Trump admin has worked wonders to secure the border. But major issues remain.
And Tom Homan left Sean Hannity shocked with this confession about a border nightmare that keeps him up at night.
Border Crisis Alarms Experts as Trump Admin Slashes Illegal Crossings
The United States faces unprecedented challenges at its southern border, with experts sounding the alarm over the fallout from the Biden-Harris administration’s policies. Tom Homan, the newly appointed border czar, expressed deep concern during a Tuesday appearance on Fox News’ Hannity, describing the situation as the most troubling in his 40-year career. His warnings come as the nation grapples with potential national security threats following a U.S. strike on three Iranian nuclear weapons sites last Saturday.
Homan’s remarks were prompted by host Sean Hannity, who pressed him on the gravity of the crisis. “If the average American, if everyone watching the show tonight knew what you knew, and [DHS Secretary] Kristi Noem knew, and [FBI Director] Kash Patel, and [FBI Deputy Director] Dan Bongino and [Attorney General] Pam Bondi knew, how scared would they be?” Hannity asked.
“I’ve been doing this for 40 years. This is the biggest concern I’ve ever had,” Homan responded. He pointed to the staggering toll of the border crisis under the previous administration, including “fentanyl that k*lled a quarter million Americans” and a 600% surge in s*x trafficking. He also highlighted the arrest of individuals on the terrorist watch list at the border, emphasizing the risks posed by unchecked migration. “We had two million plus gotaways,” Homan added, referring to migrants who evaded capture.
The Biden-Harris administration’s tenure saw an overwhelming influx of illegal migrants, with Republicans repeatedly sounding the alarm. Over four years, millions crossed the U.S. border, including an estimated 1.9 million “gotaways” by June 2024. These figures represent migrants who entered without being apprehended, raising concerns about who may be among them and their intentions.
A House Judiciary Committee report from October 2024 revealed that over 1.7 million migrants encountered at the southern border were flagged as “potential national security threats.” Among the estimated eight million illegal migrants who entered since January 2021, at least 382 were on the U.S. terrorist watchlist. These numbers paint a stark contrast to the current administration’s swift action to secure the border.
Homan didn’t mince words about the dangers. “This scares the h*ll out of me. If you don’t think a single one of them didn’t come here to do us harm, then you’re a moron,” he said. He emphasized that the crisis is the most severe he’s witnessed in his career, adding, “It should scare the h*ll out of every American, but thank God we got President Trump sitting in the White House because he’s going to take this on 100%.”
The Trump administration has moved aggressively to address the crisis. Since President Donald Trump took office, daily border encounters have plummeted by 93% within his first 100 days, with migrant crossings down by an astonishing 99.99%, according to White House data.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data obtained by Fox News shows record-low apprehensions. Between June 1 and June 22, there were just 5,414 apprehensions at the border, with the El Paso sector being the busiest. During the same period, only 986 “gotaways” were recorded—the lowest numbers ever reported.
Comparing these figures to the Biden era highlights the turnaround. In May 2024, CBP recorded just under 9,000 apprehensions, a sharp decline from the roughly 118,000 logged the previous year. Even as late as July 2024, under Biden, encounters numbered around 56,000—still significantly higher than the current administration’s figures.
The Biden administration’s belated attempt to curb crossings through an executive order last June had some effect, reducing encounters from a high of 83,532 in June 2023. However, the order came after three years of extraordinarily high migration, with daily crossings at times reaching 10,000 in 2023, facilitated by policies like the CBP One app, which allowed migrants to apply for asylum.
Under Trump, the CBP One app has been rebranded as the CBP Home app, now used to facilitate voluntary self-deportation for non-criminal migrants. The Department of Homeland Security is offering a $1,000 stipend and free travel for those who choose to leave, a pragmatic approach to reducing illegal presence in the U.S.
Deportation efforts have also intensified, though not without pushback. Protests and riots erupted in Los Angeles and other cities earlier this month as the administration ramped up removals, focusing primarily on individuals with criminal charges or convictions. The Department of Homeland Security and ICE have prioritized messaging around these targeted operations.
On the legislative front, the Trump administration is championing border and immigration provisions in a Senate reconciliation bill. The measures include hiring additional federal authorities and funding more detention center beds, signaling a long-term commitment to border security.
Over the weekend, DHS officials arrested 11 Iranian illegal migrants, including one who reportedly served as an Iranian Army sniper and carried an Islamic Republic of Iran Army identification card. Such incidents highlight the ongoing risks at the border.
As the Trump administration continues to reverse the policies of its predecessor, the numbers tell a clear story. Gotaway figures have dropped to an average of 46 per day, compared to a staggering 1,833 per day at one point in 2023 under Biden. The administration’s focus on enforcement and deterrence is yielding measurable results, offering a stark contrast to the chaos of the past four years.
