The election cycles never end. And all eyes are looking ahead.
Now ousted Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene stunned all with a 2028 election announcement.
Greene Denies Presidential Ambitions
Outgoing Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) firmly rejected a report on Sunday suggesting she might pursue a presidential bid in 2028, stating on social media: “I’m not running for President and never said I wanted to and have only laughed about it when anyone would mention it.”
The 51-year-old lawmaker, who unexpectedly declared her resignation on Friday evening, was addressing a Saturday article from Time magazine claiming she “has privately told allies that she has considered running for president in 2028,” based on accounts from “two people who have spoken with her directly about the prospect and three others familiar with her thinking.”
“[T]his is a complete lie and they made it up because they can’t even quote the names of the people who they claim said it,” Greene insisted. “That’s not journalism, it’s called lying.”
Resignation Amid Tensions with Trump
Greene’s decision to step down, set to take effect on Jan. 5, follows ongoing conflicts with President Trump, including a recent dispute over the disclosure of Justice Department documents tied to the Jeffrey Epstein case.
After Greene advocated for the complete release of the files, Trump revoked his endorsement for her potential reelection, describing her as “wacky” and a “lunatic.”
A House GOP aide characterized Greene’s Friday resignation as a “vindictive” action intended to “f—k” over the slim Republican House majority, currently at 219-213 with three open seats.
“MTG left before Pelosi did,” this person noted, referring to the Democratic former House speaker who announced earlier this month she would not seek another term.
Critique of the Political System
In her post, Greene also addressed broader perceptions of political maneuvering and her reluctance to enter a presidential race.
“If you fell for those headlines, you’re still being lulled everyday [sic] into psychosis by the Political Industrial Complex that always has an agenda when it does something like this,” Greene said later in her post.
“Running for President requires traveling all over the country, begging for donations all day everyday to raise hundreds of millions of dollars, arguing political talking points everyday [sic] to the point of exhaustion, destroying your health and having no personal life in order to attempt to get enough votes to become President all to go to work into a system that refuses to fix any of America’s problems.”
“The fact that I’d have to go through all that but would be totally blocked from truly fixing anything is exactly why I would never do it.”
