Political violence is ramping up in America. No one is safe from it.
And now police rushed to one Congresswoman’s house after a terrifying attack.
Capitol Police Probe Vandalism at Rep. Tenney’s DC Home Amid Rising Threats
U.S. Capitol Police swiftly initiated an investigation Thursday morning after a window was shattered at the Washington, D.C., residence of Republican New York Rep. Claudia Tenney. While the reason behind the act remains unknown and fortunately no injuries occurred, the episode underscores the escalating dangers faced by elected officials from both parties—prompting urgent calls to reject all forms of political intimidation and violence that erode democratic discourse.
Tenney praised the quick action by authorities in her office’s press release, as lawmakers continue to grapple with heightened personal security concerns.
This follows September’s bipartisan approval of expanded protective measures, including doubled allowances, in response to the tragic k-lling of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
Tenney Condemns Attack, Vows to Continue Serving Undeterred
In her response, Tenney firmly denounced the vandalism as a symptom of broader societal issues, emphasizing that such tactics must be universally rejected to preserve civil society.
“This incident at my residence in Washington was disturbing and unacceptable. I am grateful that no one was hurt, and I want to thank law enforcement for their rapid response and continued efforts to keep our community safe,” Tenney said in a statement.
“Violence, intimidation, and attacks against public officials or their families have no place in our society. I will not be deterred from doing my job on behalf of the people of New York.”
The enhanced security funding now grants members a $10,000 monthly stipend—up from half that amount—to bolster safeguards against these intolerable threats.
Pattern of Violence Against Lawmakers Demands Zero Tolerance
This latest incident fits into a disturbing pattern of aggression targeting politicians, where acts of violence—regardless of motive or affiliation—threaten the very foundation of representative government and must be met with unwavering condemnation.
Just this month, Capitol Police detained a suspect outside the Russell Senate Office Building for allegedly plotting to assassinate a congressional member.
In July, another arrest near the Capitol uncovered a vehicle stocked with dangerous items, including a medieval hatchet, bow and arrow, assault rifle, and handgun.
High-profile Democrats have also fallen victim: Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar endured an armed carjacking by masked attackers in D.C.’s Navy Yard in 2023, while Minnesota Rep. Angie Craig was physically attacked in her apartment elevator that same year.
On the Republican side, Majority Leader Steve Scalise and four others were wounded in a 2017 shooting at a Virginia baseball field. In the aftermath, Tenney herself reported a chilling email threat to Capitol Police, bearing the subject line: “One down, 216 to go…”
