Radical leftist congressman’s time in office is over after this humiliating defeat

It’s over for this Democrat. He has suffered a brutal loss.

And a radical leftist congressman’s time in office is over after this humiliating defeat.

After over two decades in Washington, Rep. Al Green (D) is heading for the exit door following a decisive rejection by voters in his own Houston-area district.

The 78-year-old congressman, famous for his theatrical disruptions during presidential addresses, suffered a landslide loss in Tuesday’s runoff against a fresher face in the party.

Christian Menefee delivered a commanding performance, capturing almost 70 percent of the vote compared to Green’s meager 30 percent share.

The contest turned into an intra-party clash after new district lines forced the two Democrats to compete for the same seat in Texas’ 18th Congressional District.

Green’s lengthy tenure came to a grinding halt as local voters clearly signaled their desire for change.

His reputation for headline-grabbing antics in the House chamber often overshadowed substantive work.

The defeat marks the end of an era for one of the House’s most entrenched members.

Green had built a career centered on performative gestures rather than addressing the core concerns of working-class Americans in his district.

In his concession remarks, the outgoing lawmaker stayed true to form, zeroing in on social issues even as his political career crumbled around him.

“I’d like to indicate to you that this effort has been one that was sincere. It’s something that I have done as a labor of love. I have enjoyed all of my time as a member of the Congress of the United States of America,” he stated.

“And I want to assure you that when I go back to Congress next week, I still plan to take up the cause of women in this country. I still will fight to make sure a woman has a right to choose. This is something that we cannot allow men to deprive women of.”

Even in defeat, Green appeared detached from the economic anxieties gripping many households.

His fixation on abortion rights in the speech highlighted a disconnect that has grown between Democratic priorities and the realities facing urban and working communities in places like Houston.

Right-leaning populists have long argued that politicians like Green represent an aging guard more interested in cultural crusades than securing borders, lowering energy prices, or protecting American jobs.
