In a surprising admission from a mainstream media figure, CNN anchor Jake Tapper has come out swinging against the liberal indoctrination pushed on today’s youth. During a recent podcast appearance, Tapper laid out his belief that Generation Z is poised to embrace conservative principles far more than their predecessors. This comes as a breath of fresh air for those tired of the endless progressive agenda dominating schools and culture.
Tapper dropped this truth bomb on The Reason Interview podcast, chatting with Reason editor-at-large Nick Gillespie. He pointed directly to the backlash against the woke ideology crammed into classrooms by older generations.
“I think it is a reaction to Gen Xers and Millennials forcing on them progressive views in school,” Tapper said.
Drawing from personal experience, Tapper highlighted how his own children and their peers are pushing back against the left-wing dogma they’ve encountered. This firsthand insight adds weight to his prediction.
“I think Gen Z’s going to be a lot more conservative. I think that, just my experience knowing Gen Z kids — my kids and their friends, and whatever — I sense much more skepticism,” he stated.
“This is my general impression,” Tapper added.
Gillespie chimed in with agreement, noting that early signs pointed this way, even if the trend dipped temporarily before resurging.
“That was an early read of Gen Z, and then that kind of abated, but it may be what ends up happening,” Gillespie said.
Hard numbers back up Tapper’s take, with recent polls revealing a clear rightward tilt among young Americans. Gone are the days when youth automatically lined up behind liberal causes.
Data from the Center for Information & Research on Civic Learning and Engagement (CIRCLE) showed a spike in conservative identification among young voters from 2020 to 2024.
In the latest election, the 18–29 age bracket stood out as the only group where moderate voters favored Donald Trump over Kamala Harris.
Tapper gave credit where it’s due, acknowledging Trump’s gains with this demographic without buying into overblown claims.
“Trump did not win young voters as he constantly says he did, but he did do better with them than other previous Republicans,” he explained.
Beyond Trump’s charisma, Tapper argued that the real driver is the collapse of left-wing promises, from socialist pipe dreams to identity politics fiascos.
“I just think that it’s not just that he’s reshaping and remaking politics and normalizing things that weren’t normal ten years ago, I also think it is a reaction to the failures of progressive movements to achieve what they wanted to achieve — whether it’s Bernie Sanders, whether it’s Black Lives Matter, whether it’s #MeToo,” Tapper said.
Tapper didn’t stop there, calling out the overreach during the pandemic and the relentless shoving of radical ideas in education as key factors fueling this conservative surge.
“I think it’s COVID, a lot of progressive politics being forced down their throats in school. I think there’s a lot of stuff going on,” he stated.
