The DNC and Biden are desperately trying to salvage his campaign. They’re taking extreme measures.
And now the DNC chair made a gross admission about Joe Biden.
Democratic officials are becoming increasingly defensive about their nominee, leading to a public spat between the party’s national chair and a well-known polling analyst on social media.
DNC Chair Jaime Harrison clashed with journalist Nate Silver on X, following Silver’s accusation that Harrison and the DNC were “blatantly lying” about the reasoning behind the decision to advance the formal nominating process for President Joe Biden.
“I trust our legal team, who make a living understanding these laws and processes, not the pollster who promised us the red wave,” Harrison retorted on X.
The exchange between Harrison and Silver grew heated, culminating in Harrison declaring, “I’m done with this back and forth.”
Neither Silver nor Harrison responded to requests for further comment.
Biden’s poor debate performance has prompted some party members to scrutinize the DNC’s nomination procedures as their prospects for November appear increasingly bleak.
Despite the growing criticism, Biden remains adamant about continuing his campaign.
The party considered a virtual roll call when it seemed Ohio’s ballot deadline, set for Aug. 7, might exclude Biden from the ticket.
Although Ohio isn’t a crucial state for Democrats, the DNC opted for a virtual roll call to ensure Biden’s place on the ballot.
However, this decision sparked a rebellion among House Democrats, who began drafting a letter to the DNC urging a delay in the vote.
The DNC later rescheduled the roll call to occur after Aug. 1, leading the House Democrats to halt their campaign.
A key issue between Harrison and Silver was the necessity of the virtual roll call. The Ohio legislature subsequently moved the ballot access deadline to after the Democratic Party convention, negating the need for an early vote.
Commentators like Silver questioned whether the roll call was a tactic to force unity behind Biden, despite his declining prospects.
Polls show that confidence in Biden among Democrats is waning. A recent poll revealed that nearly two-thirds of Democrats believe Biden should withdraw from the race, with almost half doubting his mental capacity to serve effectively.
The AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll indicated that 65 percent of Democrats want Biden to step down, and 48 percent are “not very” or “not at all” confident in his mental capability.
More concerningly, only 18 percent of all surveyed Americans believe he can win in November.
The AP-NORC poll, conducted from July 11-15, surveyed 1,253 American adults with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.
