Illegal immigration is a problem in this country. The Trump admin is trying to fix it.
And Trump’s border czar gave a crucial update on immigration.
Border Czar Tom Homan dropped a straightforward warning while appearing on Newsmax TV’s Rob Schmitt Tonight.
Immigration officials are not limiting themselves to criminals and national security risks. A full 40 percent of those being arrested right now fall outside those categories.
Homan put it plainly:
“Look, if they’re in the United States illegally, they should be worried, because we’re looking for them. The numbers right now are running around 60% criminal and 40% non-criminal. We’re looking for them.”
“And like I say, President Trump said he wants a priority on public safety threats, national security threats. But, as I said from the beginning, that doesn’t mean everybody else is off the table.”
That 40 percent figure is not some minor detail. It means the Trump administration is treating illegal presence itself as grounds for action.
No free passes for those who simply broke the law by entering or remaining without permission.
Homan drove the point home again:
“40% of everybody we’re arresting is not a public safety threat and not a national security threat. So, if you’re in the country illegally, you should be looking over your shoulder.”
Agents are finding and removing people who never should have been here in the first place.
President Trump set the priority on public safety and national security threats. Homan confirmed that priority remains in force.
At the same time, he made clear the rest of the illegal population is not magically protected.
American citizens have waited long enough for a government that puts their interests first.
Communities across the country have absorbed the costs of illegal immigration in strained schools, crowded emergency rooms, and rising crime in certain areas.
The new approach answers that frustration with action instead of excuses.
