Vice President Harris is enjoying her time in the spotlight. She’s got a major problem with that, though.
And this U.S. Senator’s confession about Kamala Harris is raising everyone’s eyebrows.
One of the most shocking and maddening aspects of the Kamala Harris campaign thus far for Americans to watch unfold has been the extent to which her allies will defend her. They will defend her like she’s the most important person they’ve ever met in their life. All you’ll ever hear from her supporters is flowery compliments for her and her campaign.
Even suggesting one small criticism will be met with being “educated on the facts” by her allies, which really means just browbeating until it’s accepted that she’s the best thing since sliced bread. The sad part is this isn’t even really hyperbole.
On CNN, when a Democrat U.S. Senator was asked about the legitimate criticism that Kamala Harris hasn’t given any interviews to the press since she launched her campaign, he said that this criticism was “desperation” and said that Kamala Harris is busy as Vice President so you have to “give her grace.”
Sen. Alex Padilla Defends Vice President Kamala Harris Amid Criticism Over Media Absence
Democratic Senator Alex Padilla of California recently addressed concerns about Vice President Kamala Harris’ absence from media interviews during a CNN appearance. According to Padilla, Harris’s extensive experience in public service and her role as the presumptive Democratic nominee render frequent interviews unnecessary.
The issue arose after Republican Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio criticized Harris for not engaging with the press during a recent trip to Wisconsin. Vance suggested to reporters that Harris’s lack of interviews might leave them “lonely,” a remark Padilla dismissed as a political stunt. Padilla argued that the criticism from Vance and other Republicans reflects their inability to campaign on substantive issues.
“It’s trolling. It’s a stunt. It’s desperation, if you ask me,” Padilla stated during the interview with CNN News Central host Sara Sidner. He emphasized Harris’s impressive career trajectory, which includes her roles as District Attorney in San Francisco, Attorney General of California, and U.S. Senator—a position she held longer than Vance has been in office. Padilla highlighted Harris’s “experience” and “maturity,” arguing that these qualities make her well-suited for the vice presidency.

Padilla also addressed the unique circumstances surrounding Harris’s nomination as the presumptive Democratic candidate. “You’ve got to cut her a little bit of slack for the last three-and-a-half weeks, an unprecedented way to become the nominee for the Democratic Party,” Padilla said. He noted that Harris has been focused on assembling delegates, selecting Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, and preparing for the Democratic Convention in Chicago—all while continuing her duties as vice president and campaigning in key battleground states.
Since President Joe Biden announced the end of his reelection campaign on July 21, Harris has not participated in any interviews or press conferences. However, Padilla assured that the vice president would resume media engagements in due course, as she balances the demands of her role with the ongoing campaign.
Harris and her running mate, Governor Walz, are currently touring battleground states as they gear up for the upcoming Democratic Convention and the general election.
The Empty Kamala Harris Campaign
So far, Kamala Harris has run a completely empty campaign. She has given no interviews with the press since launching her campaign. She’s discussed no policy positions with reporters or in any press release statements. Her campaign website, at the time of writing, doesn’t even have policy positions on it.
There has never been a viable candidate running for President who did not have campaign policy positions to share with the public less than 90 days out from the November election. That is utter insanity.
There’s a reason she’s doing this, though. She is intentionally staying quiet and letting her campaign fundraising take the spotlight. She wants the money to roll and and she wants to do nothing that could prevent that. This is, frankly, a smart move.
The problem for her is that she will likely keep this up through the Democrat convention, where she will hope for another round of flowery reporting from the mainstream media and more fundraising bumps. But by the time the DNC is over, it’ll already be close to September and she’ll have to actually tell the voters what she stands for.
She’s done a great job at convincing the base who has Trump Derangement Syndrome that she’s going to be their savior. An inanimate object probably could’ve done that if it was announced that a chair would be replacing Joe Biden as the Democrat nominee for President. Convincing swing state voters is a different issue. Donald Trump and J.D. Vance will have spent weeks telling the swing state voters that the Harris-Walz ticket is about as radical as it gets. At that point, hiding from media interviews will be a haunting decision for Harris.
