FBI and Army Move Swiftly After Fort Polk Soldier’s Recorded Threats to K-ll Jewish Worshippers
A 22-year-old U.S. Army soldier stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana, is now facing federal charges after investigators recovered audio recordings in which he allegedly described, in chilling detail, his plan to carry out a mass shooting at a synagogue. The arrest, announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Louisiana on April 28, 2026, was the result of swift cooperation between the FBI’s National Threat Operations Center, agents in Birmingham and New Orleans, and the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division.
Jakob Marcoulier was arrested on April 23 and charged with transmitting a threat in interstate commerce. He faces up to five years in federal prison if convicted.
What Was Said
The FBI’s National Threat Operations Center received an online tip in February 2026 about a Discord user going by the name “el.bostino” who had been making threats against synagogues. Agents secured recorded audio from the platform in which Marcoulier allegedly stated: “after this deployment if the Jews still have reign over our government, I am going to walk into a synagogue with my AK, with a 75-round drum mag, and all of my extra mags, with my level four plates, and my haka helmet that’s three plus, and I am going to k-ll every single Jew I know inside of that synagogue. And that’s my goal in life.”
Marcoulier allegedly reinforced the threat with added statements underscoring his alleged intent to act: “You guys will never do anything about but I will. I just have to finish this, I have to go back overseas and do what I have to do. And then you’ll see me in the news. I promise you.”
Swift Action and a Clear Message
United States Attorney Zachary A. Keller made the stakes plain in his announcement: “Threats against synagogues and Jewish Americans are threats to the religious freedom promised to every single one of us, and this Office and our law enforcement partners are committed to protecting those freedoms. This case demonstrates the FBI’s vigilance and swift action in identifying and taking action against those who perpetrate these threats, and our Office looks forward to seeing justice done in this case.”
Special Agent in Charge Jonathan Tapp of the FBI New Orleans Field Office credited the public with making the arrest possible: “Once the concerned citizen reached out to 1-800-CALL-FBI to report this situation, FBI Special Agents in Birmingham and New Orleans, and our partners in the U.S. Army, acted swiftly in this case. This is a perfect example of how the public is law enforcement’s greatest partner.”
Marcoulier remains in U.S. Marshals custody pending further court proceedings. A detention hearing was scheduled for Wednesday.
The case comes at a time of elevated concern for Jewish communities nationwide. The ongoing Iran conflict has placed Jewish institutions across America and around the world on heightened alert. Synagogue arsons in Europe and a vehicle attack on a synagogue in suburban Detroit last month have underscored that the threat to Jewish communities is real, active, and international in scope.
