The litany of Joe Biden’s scandals is too long to list and spans over decades.
His family has personally benefitted from his political power in Ukraine when he convinced the government to fire their top prosecutor investigating his son, Hunter.
Backroom deals with Chinese corporations even gave millions of dollars to his son for so-called “business.”
Many in the conservative movement thought the Biden family would come crumbling down in 2020 when the New York Post got a hold of details of what was on Hunter Biden’s laptop.
But what followed wasn’t journalistic investigations to get to the truth behind the story.
Rather, mainstream media outlets, government bureaus like the FBI, and social media giants worked in lockstep with each other to prevent the story from spreading.
The FBI has even admitted one of the reasons for their attempts to censor the story was the very real possibility it would affect Joe Biden’s chances in the 2020 presidential election.
During the height of the controversy, Twitter made headlines for locking New York Post staff out of their account and preventing users from being redirected to their stories online.
But now one of the men responsible for censoring the story is opening up about his regrets.
Yoel Roth, the former head of Twitter Trust and Safety, confessed on Tuesday that the business made a “mistake” by blocking the article regarding Hunter Biden’s laptop during the 2020 presidential race.
Roth, who left in early November, admitted the error to podcast host Kara Swisher during a Knight Foundation conference interview.
“We didn’t know what to believe, we didn’t know what was true, there was smoke — and ultimately, for me, it didn’t reach a place where I was comfortable removing this content from Twitter,” Roth said. “But it set off every single one of my finely tuned APT28 ‘hack and leak campaign’ alarm bells.”
Roth also stated that he felt “a responsibility to protect the integrity” of conversations on the platform about foreign governments attempting to interfere in elections, which resulted in the platform removing content related to the Post’s report and suspending the news outlet’s account for several weeks.
“There were lots of reasons why the entire industry was on alert,” Roth added.
The FBI approached Roth and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg about alleged foreign propaganda and misinformation ahead of the 2020 election. However, after performing independent investigations and analysis, major legacy media sources, including CBS and The Washington Post, have agreed that the laptop is genuine.
“But — so it was a mistake?” Swisher inquired.
“In my opinion, yes,” Roth responded.
According to Reuters, Roth also said during the conference that Twitter had gotten less secure since Elon Musk owned the platform.
Musk responded to a tweet on Wednesday from Tasmanian blogger Eva Fox, who said that the platform had lost user confidence over the last decade under the previous leadership. Fox also branded the previous trust and safety team a “disgrace” that should not be used to gauge how the new owner runs Twitter.
“They had a chance, but they sold their souls to a corporation,” Fox wrote.
“Exactly,” Musk said. “The obvious reality, as long-time users know, is that Twitter has failed in trust & safety for a very long time and has interfered in elections.”
Musk added that “Twitter 2.0” aims to provide a “far more effective, transparent and even-handed” social media platform.
