GOP presidential candidate outs himself as a total RINO
The Republican Party has long been compromised by Democrat sympathizers. But now a top candidate has given the game away.
Because this GOP presidential candidate outed himself as a total RINO.
Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie says he would not sign a federal abortion ban that would last six weeks into law.
“I would not sign a six-week abortion ban and the reason is because we fought for 50 years, and I think we had this conversation a little bit before, we fought for 50 years to put this in the hands of the people,” Christie said in an interview with CNN on Tuesday.
“To say the federal government, in that case, the Supreme Court had taken it out of the hands of the people and given them no voice.”
The former New Jersey governor was asked the topic while discussing fellow Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley’s opinion on the subject.
“Now people have a voice. So we’ve seen it. You’ve mentioned Virginia, Michigan, Ohio, Kansas,” Mr. Christie said.
“And one thing I know for sure is there is no consensus around a six-week abortion ban nationally.”
Ms. Haley stated earlier this month at a campaign event in Iowa that if a six-week abortion ban had been brought to her desk while she was governor, she would have signed it.
When asked if Ms. Haley’s attitude made her “unelectable,” Mr. Christie said that if she became the party’s nominee, it may present problems.
“I think it makes it much more difficult in a general election for her, because you could see when Governor [Ron] DeSantis signed that bill in Florida, it certainly affected his popularity with the broader electorate,” Mr. Christie said.
“And my view is this: I want the people, not the politicians, to make this decision. So let people vote in the states. We see a great exercise in democracy going on all across this country.”
After the Supreme Court reversed Roe v. Wade last June, removing the constitutional right to abortion, abortion has been a hot topic in this election campaign.
Since then, 14 states have passed near-complete restrictions on abortion beyond six weeks.
“I am pro-life. That’s my personal belief and I believe strongly in it,” Mr. Christie said.
“Here is the bottom line: people should be able to make this choice. It’s too emotional to put this in the hands of politicians.”
Well, unfortunately for Christie, a majority of likely Iowa caucusgoers disagree with any GOP candidate opposing a six-week abortion ban.
Considering that will be the first test of the Republican hopeful’s campaign, it’s not looking good for him.
Of course, that’s on top of the fact that Christie is polling at a distant 5th place nationwide (3.2%).
