The DNC Headquarters is on fire after Ron DeSantis signed this controversial law (continued)
The Conclusion & Opinion
The law Ron DeSantis has signed is one of the strictest of its kind designed to keep children safe on the internet since social media companies seem more concerned with their bottom line than the safety of minors. Minors don’t even know what potential mental health impacts they may have by making accounts for platforms that are exceedingly addictive.
That’s the nature of these platforms, to be certain. They are set up to keep users on for as long as possible. TikTok wants children to be consuming short videos as much as possible and as fast as possible. It’s hard to suggest that has zero impact on the mental health of children and their attention spans.
Facebook wants users to read as much about other people as possible and let the lives of their users be consumed by interest in things like celebrities or viral videos. Can anyone truly suggest that young men and women aren’t going to have mental health side effects when they constantly see how “interesting” the internet is when they compare it to their own lives?
X (formerly known as Twitter) is its own ball game entirely, as users are encouraged to fire off as many wild “tweets” and videos as they can and have everyone get in on the fun. It moves at a blistering rate and certainly must have an impact on the attention span of minors who are still developing.
Ron DeSantis may get some heat from Democrats claiming him to be a “fascist” or an authoritarian, but he likely doesn’t care. He sees where the movement of America is going. That movement is towards parents trying to protect their kids at all costs. If anything, it’s likely that this type of bill will be signed by Republican governors in more states throughout the union.
And if Ron DeSantis ever decides to run for president again, this is a significant “win” to keep in his pocket if that’s the case.
