Joe Biden receives a startling voicemail from a U.S. Marine hostage held in Russia
The optics for Joe Biden are worsening. He’s been caught in a dereliction of duty.
As Joe Biden’s received a startling voicemail from a U.S. hostage and his response is disgusting.
There’s one aspect of Joe Biden’s foreign policy that the Leftist outlets simply do not want to report and give real airtime to, and that’s the many hostages that are being held against their will in horrible situations all over the world.
One of the most disconcerting cases is that of Paul Whelan, a U.S. citizen and former military member of the Marines who is being held hostage in a Russian prison on phony charges of espionage.
Paul Whelan, a former U.S. Marine, was arrested in Russia on December 28, 2018, and subsequently sentenced to 16 years in prison on charges of espionage. According to Russian authorities, Whelan was caught with a USB drive containing classified information. Whelan denies the charges and claims he was set up.
His family and U.S. officials have argued that he was in Russia for a wedding and that he was framed. The case has been a source of tension between the United States and Russia, with Whelan’s family and U.S. officials pressing for his release.
This past December, Paul Whelan reached out to a number of outlets to directly call for Joe Biden to do more to secure his release and freedom to come back to the United States and be reunited with his family again.
WTOP News had some communications with Paul Whelan right around Christmas time and in voicemails left for the outlet, Whelan said he believes President Biden is the one person not working hard enough for his freedom.
“Mr. President,” Whelan shared with WTOP News reporters. “You promised to bring me home. I’m still here. There has to be more that you can do to secure my release.”
Some days later, he added that his major concern is that “diplomatic efforts have failed and not enough is being done to secure my release from the very top.” He made it extremely clear that he believes Joe Biden is to blame.
He noted that members of Congress in both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate as well as the ambassadors in the region have all been supportive of him and vocal about the United States’ needing to secure his freedom.
He even claimed that Biden administration officials Jake Sullivan and Antony Blinken were communicating with him and trying to help.
“The House and Senate have been quite supportive. The four consulates are quite supportive. The ambassadors come here to the middle of nowhere to visit me, and I know that Jake Sullivan and Antony Blinken care, and are engaged,” Whelan had shared at the time.
He went on to say that Biden is the one who decided to leave him behind “twice,” he claims, and that President Biden needs to “honor” his promises he’s made to Whelan.
“My message to him is quite simply: I’ve been told that everyone is doing all they can and that my release is a top priority. Promises have been made, and I need everyone who has made those promises to now man up and honor them,” Whelan went on to say.
During these exchanges, Whelan went on to note how depressed he is becoming and that he’s worried that he will rot in a Russian prison for the rest of his life and never be able to see his family again.
So now months later, where is the Biden administration at with being able to secure his freedom? Well, apparently nowhere. There’s been no significant updates on the matter to indicate that the Biden administration has moved the needle to convince Russia to let the former Marine go free.
Not only that, but Biden administration officials recently shared in a press conference that “silence is key” in trying to secure the freedom of American hostages being held against their will in foreign nations.
President Biden met with Paul Whelan’s sister earlier this year, but that’s all that has happened. There’s definitely been silence on the matter but nothing to show for it at all.
