Donald Trump has been in the hot seat as Democrats try to push him out of the 2024 race.
Constant court cases are starting to take their toll, but he hasn’t given up.
And now he may have gotten a major boost.
Because Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, the Georgia prosecutor leading a 2020 election interference case against former President Donald Trump and his aides, did not attend a debate over the weekend.
Her Democratic Party nomination competitor, attorney Christian Wise Smith, faced an empty podium at the Atlanta Press Club event on Sunday.

Prior to the debate, Willis’ team stated that the DA was not conducting interviews regarding “high-profile cases” that her office is pursuing, such as the election case and the YSL trial involving Atlanta rapper Young Thug, ahead of the May 21 primary.
“We understand that she cannot insist that panelists and her opponent avoid certain subjects, and consequently, her participation means likely repeatedly being unable to respond to questions, as well as risking saying something that defense counsel could make an issue in ongoing litigation,” the statement said.
According to Fox 5 Atlanta, a recent poll conducted by political consultant Fred Hicks found Willis leading with 79% support to Wise Smith’s 9%, indicating that the romance controversy involving the DA’s now-former special prosecutor Nathan Wade is not jeopardizing her re-election chances.
Wise Smith, who lost to Willis in the 2020 DA race, challenged the incumbent to a debate rematch.
“There is no reason we can’t reschedule the debate,” Smith said in a press release obtained by Fox News Digital.
“We are happy to work with her team to do it.”
Courtney Kramer, a lawyer whose resume states that she interned in Trump’s Office of the White House Counsel, is running for District Attorney as a Republican.
In March, a judge authorized Willis to proceed with her election case after her special prosecutor, Wade, quit on concerns about the two’s intimate relationship. The other alternative was for Willis to step down.
Willis asked an appeals court to uphold the ruling after the defense requested a review.
Trump and 18 co-defendants pled not guilty in the Georgia case, though four have subsequently entered plea bargains.
The former president, who is running for a second term in the White House, has denied wrongdoing in many instances and alleged that prosecutors are conducting a politically motivated “witch hunt” against him.
