Vice President Kamala Harris found herself once again in the spotlight Monday, delivering a characteristically convoluted statement during a White House briefing on the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.
Harris, 60, addressed the residents of Southern California, many of whom have been displaced by widespread evacuation orders. She urged them to remain patient as first responders work diligently to secure neighborhoods for re-entry.
“It’s critically important that, to the extent you can find anything that gives you an ability to be patient in this extremely dangerous and unprecedented crisis, that you do,” Harris said, offering what some social media users described as an overly verbose message to residents eager to return home.
On X (formerly Twitter), reactions were swift, with many pointing out the vice president’s tendency for lengthy and redundant statements.
One user summed up the sentiment succinctly: “Classic Kamala.”
Another quipped, “‘Be patient’ means the same thing, but listen to this word salad instead.”
Critics couldn’t help but remark on Harris’ roundabout way of making her point.
“It’s amazing how long it takes her to get to the point,” one X user posted.
Others took the opportunity to mockingly reference one of Harris’ infamous phrases.
“So basically, these victims should be unburdened by what has been,” one comment read, blending sarcasm with a callback to a prior gaffe.
The briefing also became a moment for supporters of President-elect Donald Trump to weigh in, drawing sharp contrasts between the outgoing administration and the incoming one.
Many expressed relief at what they viewed as a near-miss for the country.
“Dodged a bullet on Election Day,” one user wrote, celebrating what they see as an end to Harris’ “word salads” in the White House.
“Yes. Be patient,” another Trump supporter tweeted, adding, “Competent leadership will be here in one week.”
Another chimed in with a lighthearted jab: “Word salads are off the menu after January 20th,” referring to Trump’s upcoming inauguration.
While Harris’ remarks may have aimed to comfort, they instead reignited the ongoing debate over her communication style — a defining feature for some and a source of endless mockery for others.
