House Republicans are sounding the alarm over yet another glaring failure of the Harris-Biden administration’s immigration policies, this time involving a former top Cuban Communist Party official who was granted an immigrant visa to legally migrate to the United States.
Reps. Mario Díaz-Balart (R-Fla.), Carlos Giménez (R-Fla.), María Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.), House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), and Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement Subcommittee Chairman Tom McClintock (R-Calif.) blasted the administration for the “lapses in vetting” that allowed Manuel Menendez Castellanos, a long-time Communist figure, to fly into Miami under a U.S. visa parole program for Cubans.
Their strong words were delivered in letters to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
“Menendez Castellanos’s entry into the United States raises serious questions about the Biden-Harris Administration’s application of federal immigration law and the vetting procedures used during the immigrant visa application process,” the lawmakers wrote, referring to clear guidelines under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) that should have deemed him inadmissible.
Menendez, a former high-ranking official in Cuba’s Communist Party, was deeply entrenched in Fidel Castro’s regime, playing a direct role in suppressing the Cuban people.
His history as a provincial Communist Party chief and member of Castro’s “coordination and support team” was well-documented, yet this didn’t stop the Harris-Biden administration from granting him entry into the U.S.
Despite the fact that Menendez openly admitted to having been a member of the Communist Party in his immigration paperwork, his application was somehow approved.
According to the House Judiciary Committee, Menendez initially denied any connection to the Communist Party when questioned by immigration officials.
Later, he acknowledged his membership but downplayed it, yet this clear contradiction was ignored.
The lawmakers expressed outrage in their letter, saying it was “inexcusable” that the Harris-Biden administration failed to invoke any of the INA’s exceptions or even conduct a basic background check that would have exposed Menendez’s extensive ties to Castro’s brutal regime.
“Had the Biden-Harris Administration bothered to conduct a simple, five-minute internet search, it would have uncovered Menéndez Castellanos’s disturbing ties to the Castro regime,” they added.
This incident is just another example of the Harris-Biden administration’s dangerously lax approach to national security.
While illegal immigration has surged under their watch, the admittance of a Communist official like Menendez only serves to highlight how far they are willing to go to placate authoritarian regimes and undermine America’s values on the global stage.
The congressional representatives rightfully demanded answers.
They requested all of Menendez’s immigration files and explanations for why he was not deemed inadmissible, despite his admitted affiliation with the Communist Party of Cuba.
The administration’s failure to keep individuals like Menendez out of the country is not just a bureaucratic oversight — it’s a deliberate choice to weaken America’s security and turn a blind eye to the dangers of allowing agents of totalitarian regimes to find refuge on U.S. soil.
The New York Post has reached out to the State Department and Department of Homeland Security for comment, but it’s clear that the Harris-Biden administration’s immigration policies are putting American values — and security — at risk.
