Washington is buzzing as the House gears up to tackle the annual defense policy bill this week, but leave it to Democrats to turn a crucial national security measure into a platform for their anti-Trump vendetta.
They’re flooding the fiscal 2026 National Defense Authorization Act with hundreds of amendments designed to sabotage the president’s tough stance on key issues.
Lawmakers have thrown in around 450 proposed changes to the NDAA, zeroing in on everything from woke diversity initiatives to funding for Israel and the administration’s no-nonsense approach to curbing illegal immigration. It’s classic left-wing tactics, trying to weaken America’s defenses from within.
The House Rules Committee kicked off its review Monday afternoon, laying out the ground rules for debate and setting the stage for a full floor vote sometime later in the week.
While most of these far-left amendments stand little chance of making it through, they’re a clear sign of desperation from Democrats. They’re hijacking what should be a straightforward, bipartisan defense package to push their radical agenda and bash the White House and Republican leaders at every turn.
Take Rep. Jasmine Crockett from Texas, who’s leading the charge with several amendments. One of hers aims to stop the NDAA’s prohibition on using defense funding for DEI programs, because apparently, the military needs more social experiments instead of real strength.
Not to be outdone, Reps. Luz Rivas from California and Jill Tokuda from Hawaii have teamed up on an amendment to stop a ban on DEI intiatives at the Pentagon. These folks seem determined to keep forcing divisive policies on U.S. troops, no matter the cost to readiness.
Crockett isn’t stopping there—she’s also pushing language to bring construction of migrant detention facilities on military bases to a halt, which takes a direct swing at Trump’s effective policies to secure America’s borders.
Then there’s Rep. Maxwell Frost from Florida, who’s pushing an amendment banning Defense Department funds from going towards migrant detention and processing. It’s like they want to tie the hands of those protecting American sovereignty.
Just last month, the Pentagon revealed plans to build the United States’s biggest federal migrant detention center right in Fort Bliss, Texas—a move that’s essential for handling the border crisis head-on.
Rep. Delia Ramirez from Illinois is jumping in with two amendments that target Trump immigration successes. One amendment would ban funding for family separation.
The other “prohibits funds from being used to transfer non-citizens to foreign prisons, except under treaties and extradition laws,” per the website of the Rules Committee.
Shifting gears to foreign policy, Reps. Rashida Tlaib from Michigan and Ilhan Omar from Minnesota are introducing measures to undercut U.S. support for America’s key ally, Israel. It’s no surprise coming from this squad.
Tlaib’s proposal would prohibit arms sales from the United States to nation’s whose governments contain officials who have arrest warrants from the International Criminal Court (ICC). Remember, the ICC slapped warrants on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and senior officials back in late 2024
At its core, the NDAA is the must-pass bill that Congress approves every fiscal year to outline national security and defense priorities for the U.S. government. It’s meant to keep America strong, not serve as a soapbox for progressive gripes.
With more than 1,000 amendments introduced overall to this year’s bill, the process is shaping up to be a battleground where common-sense conservatives will have to fend off these out-of-touch ideas to ensure the military remains focused on winning wars, not woke wars.
