Top Democrat calls it quits and sends out shocking resignation letter
The Democrat Party was worried this would happen. Now they’re left to pick up the pieces.
Because a top Democrat has officially called it quits with this shocking resignation letter.
On Wednesday, Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) announced his resignation from his role as a Democrat leader of the House, and a protégé made it clear that he wanted to take over in his place.
“I have informed Leader Hakeem Jeffries of my intention to step down as Assistant Democratic Leader of the House Democratic Caucus,” Rep. Clyburn, who is now 83 years old, shared in an official statement.
“I am confident that Leader Jeffries, Whip Katherine Clark, Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, and the entire leadership team will continue the important work of putting people over politics,” said the press release.
A change in leadership was triggered by his pronouncement. A House Democratic leadership official informed NBC News that Rep. Joe Neguse, a 39-year-old rising Democrat from Colorado, will seek Clyburn’s leadership position.
Representative Veronica Escobar (D-Texas), according to a Democratic source who spoke with NBC News on Thursday, will seek to replace Neguse as head of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC), the legislative arm of the party, in the event that Neguse is promoted.
Among the three co-chairs of the DPCC, 54-year-old Escobar is a member of the Hispanic Caucus and a former El Paso county judge. However, she aspires to take over as chair, a position lawmakers call “the chair of chairs.”
According to Clyburn, he is still seeking re-election to his congressional position, even if he is stepping down from leadership.
He announced his intention to seek re-election to the seat he initially captured in 1992, the Sixth Congressional District of South Carolina.
“Events of the last several years have made it clear that the greatness of America is at peril, and the threats to our continued pursuit of ‘a more perfect Union’ are real.”

In late 2022, Clyburn, a close associate of Biden’s, caused some controversy by refusing to stand aside and make room for younger members to advance in the ranks as some within his Party have made calls for.
Even Pelosi and Hoyer have re-election campaigns underway. They are in their eighties, just like President Joe Biden and Clyburn.
On the other side, Republican Mark Green of Tennessee declared on Wednesday that he will not be running for re-election. According to Green, who heads the Homeland Security Committee, it’s critical for incumbents to vacate their seats so that fresh faces may take their places in the House.
“In the last few months, in reading the writings of our Framers, I was reminded of their intent for representatives to be citizen-legislators, to serve for a season and then return home,” he stated in a press release.

The House floor endorsed the articles of impeachment against Alejandro Mayorkas, the Secretary of Homeland Security for the Biden regime, on Tuesday night, with Green’s committee advancing them.
There’s been no announcements for a replacement to run for Mark Green’s seat from Tennessee’s 7th congressional district.
