Even those on the far-Left will agree that the Biden-Harris administration can be characterized by empty promises and even outright lies. They have been claiming that they would be securing an Israel-Gaza ceasefire deal for nearly a year now, something many on the Left and some on the Right believe would be good for the region.
Regardless of where one stands on whether Israel should engage in a ceasefire, the fact remains that the Joe Biden and Kamala Harris administration has not been able to get anywhere close to a ceasefire at all. The war in the Middle East is actually getting worse by the day. Now Hezbollah is lashing out against Israel, adding fuel to the already enormous fire.
Apparently Joe Biden is not happy. According to reports, Joe Biden had a secret meeting with some within his security cabinet, in which he cursed at them to relentlessly pursue the ceasefire they have been unsuccessful at reaching so far.
As President Joe Biden nears the end of his term, he has reportedly been intensifying efforts to secure a ceasefire in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, a move seen as critical to his foreign policy legacy. According to Politico, Biden has directed key members of his administration to prioritize a ceasefire agreement, with increased pressure stemming from the fact that this conflict has embroiled the Middle East in a larger regional crisis over the past year.
The stakes are particularly high for Biden, who has frequently highlighted his foreign policy experience throughout his political career. As the January end of his term looms, there is concern that failure to broker a deal could tarnish his presidential legacy. “Keep f**king trying,” Biden reportedly told his national security team during a recent Situation Room meeting, reflecting the urgency of the moment. This directive, as reported by Politico, was confirmed by officials who requested anonymity.
In addition to enhancing his own legacy, Biden sees a successful ceasefire as a potential boost for Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming November election. Senior officials including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, CIA Director Bill Burns, and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan have been instructed to focus on achieving a deal, according to Politico’s sources.
However, U.S. officials remain skeptical about the feasibility of a ceasefire in the near future, noting that talks remain ongoing but fraught with complications.
Negotiations have been complicated by Israel’s insistence on maintaining troop presence along the Egyptian-Gazan border, a measure aimed at preventing Hamas from smuggling weapons. Hamas has rejected this condition, demanding that Israel leave Gaza entirely as part of any agreement. Additionally, there has been no consensus on the terms of a hostage-prisoner exchange, with both sides unable to agree on the number of hostages to be released and the timing of such a swap.
The complexities of these negotiations have led some within Biden’s inner circle to doubt whether a ceasefire is achievable before he leaves office. “No deal is imminent,” a U.S. official told The Wall Street Journal last week. “I’m not sure it ever gets done.” Democratic Senator Chris Coons echoed these concerns, telling Politico, “No one has worked harder for a hostage and ceasefire deal than Joe Biden and his senior aides. But I’m not optimistic we’re going to see a deal anytime soon.”
Despite this growing pessimism, Biden has continued to express confidence in recent months that a ceasefire agreement could be secured quickly. However, frustration is mounting among U.S. officials over Hamas’ resistance to the terms, a sentiment made evident by White House spokesman John Kirby’s recent remarks. “We have run into some resistance,” Kirby stated last Wednesday, “and we’re just not … any closer today than we were a few days ago.”
Biden is expected to make a renewed call for peace during his upcoming address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York. This speech will be his final address to the General Assembly, and it will also touch on other global issues, such as the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. However, the path to a ceasefire remains fraught with challenges, and time is running out for Biden to secure a breakthrough in the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Barack Obama in May tried to claim that Joe Biden had a “realistic” plan to reach a ceasefire deal with all parties, but now these high-profile Democrats all have egg on their faces. The deal seems to be nowhere in sight, and these statements about how they were going to get it done way back in the Winter and Spring of this year is now laughable.

This costs them in a critical election year that is going to be all about turnout, as the past two elections have as well. In 2016 and 2020, Donald Trump had extremely strong turnout with his voting base, allowing him to outperform all the pollsters and their expectations for him at the ballot box.
Unfortunately for Kamala Harris, she and the other Democrats have given their own base a reason to stay home since they can’t accomplish what they’ve said they would for months and months now. They’ve overpromised and severely underdelivered for their own voting base. That’s a recipe for disaster.
