The Leftist media has spent the better part of a decade trashing Donald Trump.
Whether it was calling his personality and intentions into question or blatantly accusing of crimes with no evidence, they have it out for him.
Trump didn’t take it laying down, though. He sent out lawsuits against major media outlets for their hit pieces.
But a state judge made one move that infuriated Donald Trump.
On Wednesday, the New York Supreme Court dismissed a lawsuit filed by former President Donald Trump against the New York Times.
Trump’s assertions that the outlet participated in a “insidious plot” to obtain his personal papers were rejected by New York Supreme Court Justice Robert Reed as a matter of “constitutional law.”
He ordered the former president to pay all of the outlet’s legal bills and expenses.
According to the Daily Beast, Mary Trump, Donald Trump’s niece, was also a defendant in the case, but the complaint against her has yet to be decided.
“The New York Times is pleased with the judge’s decision today,” a New York Times representative told the Washington Examiner.
“It is an important precedent reaffirming that the press is protected when it engages in routine newsgathering to obtain information of vital importance to the public,” the authors added.
The complaint, filed in 2021 by Donald Trump, accused Mary Trump of violating a private agreement she made in 2001 by smuggling personal data out of her attorney’s office, which she reportedly supplied to the newspaper.
Donald Trump also accused three New York Times reporters of “actual malice” in releasing an article about his tax returns that won a Pulitzer Prize.
Reed found in his ruling on Wednesday that Donald Trump failed to establish any tortious interference, unfair enrichment, or negligent supervision by the New York Times or its three writers. Reed also stated that the reporters’ news gathering was at “the very core of protected First Amendment activity.”
The decision is the latest in Donald Trump’s legal disputes. He is facing a defamation action in which E. Jean Carroll alleges that the former president raped her in the 1990s, as well as a civil fraud complaint against him and his company.
Donald Trump is also being probed for possibly hindering the inquiry into how secret documents ended up at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, and whether he was involved in the Capitol disturbance on January 6.
He also became the first president to face criminal charges when Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg prosecuted him with 34 counts of falsifying company documents in connection with alleged “hush money” payments.
Donald Trump was recently indicted on 34 charges by a grand jury, and he has pleaded not guilty to all of them.
