Everyone knows the Democrat Party is one of the most corrupt organizations in the country.

But, every now and again, not even the highest profile Democrats can escape their crimes.

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) called on the Senate on Thursday to expel Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) after the latter was charged with new criminal allegations accusing him of being a foreign agent.

The Pennsylvania Democrat, who was the first Senator to call for Menendez’s resignation after he and his wife were indicted on federal bribery allegations, made the request in a statement issued shortly after the superseding indictment was issued on Thursday morning.

The New Jersey Senator is now accused of breaching the Foreign Agents Registration Act by working on behalf of the Egyptian government without being registered as a foreign agent.

“Senator Menendez should not be a U.S. Senator. He should have been gone long ago,” Fetterman’s statement read.

“It is time for every one of my colleagues in the Senate to join me in expelling Senator Menendez. We cannot have an alleged foreign agent in the United States Senate. This is not a close call.”

More than half of Senate Democrats have called for Menendez’s resignation, but Fetterman is the first to advocate for his expulsion.

It remains to be seen whether the latest set of allegations will compel those who had previously expressed reservations to support the resignation calls, or whether any members who had previously called for Menendez’s resignation will now support expulsion.

The expulsion effort would need two-thirds Senate approval to pass, which is difficult given Democrats’ weak majority and guaranteed GOP opposition.

Another roadblock is that 20 Senate Democrats, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), have said Menendez deserves the chance to fight the accusations.

Federal prosecutors have charged Menendez and his wife, Nadine Arslanian Menendez, with illegally using the Senator’s position as the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to sway donors and benefit the Egyptian government in exchange for cash, gold bars, and other valuables.

The Senator, who was forced to resign as head of the Foreign Relations Committee following his indictment last month, dismissed the claims as part of a bigger “smear campaign” against him and vowed to fight them.

All five co-defendants in the case have pled not guilty, and Menendez is being held on $100,000 bail.

He and his wife, who was also charged in the superseding indictment on Thursday, have yet to enter a plea to the new charges, but the embattled Senator said in a statement, “I have been, throughout my life, loyal to only one country — the United States of America, the land my family chose to live in democracy and freedom.”

At Thursday’s White House press conference, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby declined to comment when asked by the Washington Examiner’s Naomi Lim if the Biden administration had conducted or is considering performing an assessment.
